This past week, great minds throughout Jefferson County have come together for a cause bigger than us all. Over the last few years, the height of violence has reached immeasurable peaks, and many have cited such due to the lack of communal unity.
Set to bridge generational gaps and fulfill ideas of togetherness in a positive sense, community advocates for peace and unity—along with local Gospel singers and musicians, pastors and parents, H.Y.P.E. supporters—are in for the long haul by any means to help young people evolve within present times.
The event was held at United Missionary Baptist Church, and Rev. Bettye Johnson told us:
“If you want to join us, come here. Our youth need to be in the church and know about Jesus, and Satan is going to and fro as he said. The world offers much, but for reality one needs to know Jesus; we need our young and older to learn about and know Jesus.”
Basketball and other familial games were played, food was served, and words were also shared in a positive light that fueled encouragement.
H.Y.P.E. Nonprofit spokeswoman, A. Burrell, told us: “I would like to extend a huge appreciation to everyone who came through and truly showed out. Your presence made all the difference and brought us tremendous joy to speak with the young people and their parents, to hear their dreams, goals, and the vision they hold for the next ten years. Moments like these remind us why we do this work, which is to uplift, inspire, and to witness the next generation stepping boldly into their future.”
We’re glad to be present at the starting line with a hyped crew as we salute their selfless efforts to help many. Stay tuned throughout the next few months and be intrigued to get involved with something “HYPE.”
