Bertha Louise Wilson, 72, of Akron, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026. She was born June 30, 1953, to the late Dock Myles and Annie G. Keys.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Stewart Baptist Church, 8615 Alabama Highway 60, Moundville, with Rev. James Dykes officiating.
Mrs. Wilson received her education at Akron High School in Akron, where she was known for her warm spirit and friendly nature, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime.
She confessed hope in Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Jerusalem Stewart Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until her failing health. She served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Clerk, Finance Committee member, Program Coordinator, and Church Announcer. Her commitment to her church was unwavering, and she carried out her duties with diligence, humility, and a joyful spirit.
Mrs. Wilson dedicated many years of service as a cafeteria manager for the Hale County School System until her retirement in 2015. She was also employed with the County Line Store in Moundville. She took great pride in her work and was known for her strong work ethic and caring spirit.
In her leisure time, she found great joy in participating in church activities, spending quality time with her beloved family, cooking meals with love, and watching sports. She cherished the simple moments in life and created lasting memories with those she loved most.
She was united in holy matrimony with the late Matthew Wilson. Their union was blessed with one son, Bertram M. Wilson, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dock Myles; her mother, Annie G. Keys; her former husband, Matthew Wilson; three brothers, Willie C. Myles, Everett Levert Myles, and Eddie Patton; and one sister, Gracie Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Bertram M. Wilson, Sr. (Wyanthia) of Brandon, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Bertram M. Wilson, Jr. and Baileah Makall Wilson; her sisters, Ethel P. Kennedy (Donald) of Akron and Lelia Daniel of Greensboro; her brothers, Richard Myles of Moundville and Charles Myles, Sr.; devoted sisters-in-law Geraldine Key of Tuscaloosa and Arie Myles of Miami, Florida; devoted brother-in-law Marvin Wilson of Oak Park, Michigan; two lifelong friends, Bobby Fields and Delois Wiggins Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Residents of Gallion and surrounding Hale County communities are invited to a community meeting on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 12024 Highway 80, Gallion.
Hale County Commissioner Earlene Dussett will serve as guest speaker and will provide updates on issues affecting the area. For information, call 334-231-7050.
The City Council of the City of Greensboro has approved a change to the hours of operation for Greensboro City Hall.
Beginning April 6, 2026, the new hours of operation will be:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
These hours will apply to all public services conducted at City Hall unless otherwise announced due to holidays, emergencies, or other authorized closures.
