The Greensboro Opera House will host a free performance of “Fireball,” a one-woman play by Hale County native Norman McMillan, on Sunday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
The play, starring Ingrid McGraw, is based on the memoir of the same name by Hazel Lindsey and Julia McMillan Walker, McMillan’s sister. It tells the story of Lindsey, a Tennessee woman who survived poverty, abuse, and eleven marriages armed with only one year of formal education and her own determination.
“Fireball” premiered in March 2024 at the Parnell Memorial Library Theater in Montevallo. McMillan, who was born in Greensboro, is a Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Montevallo and the author of the Black Belt memoir “Distant Son: An Alabama Boyhood,” the story collection “The Gold-Plated Scarab,” and the plays “Against a Copper Sky” and “Ashes of Roses.” He has been recognized as Alabama’s Distinguished Literary Scholar by the Alabama College English Teachers Association.
Admission is free.
