Local TV anchors honored at Annual ROAR James Bond Gala 2026

St. Valentine’s Day is always an ideal time to honor cancer survivors.

ROAR, the Fifteenth Annual James Bond Gala 2026, honored six cancer survivors on Saturday, February 14, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel.

ROAR is an acronym for Radiation, Oncology, Accelerated Research. Their mission is to raise funds for cancer research programs for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)’s Radiation Oncology Department.

The 2026 honorees were local television anchors J. P. Dice, Sheldon Haygood, Pam Huff, Rick Karle, Brenda Ladun and Jerry Tracey.

Mona Stephens is president of ROAR. Assisting Mona in planning the annual fundraiser were Martha Deane Giles, Julie Kim, Suzette Fisher, Kim Bunn, Yvonne Albaugh, Irisa Kahn and Donna Conklin.

This year’s elegant event raised over $1,000,000.00, and the UAB doctors will match $1.00 for $1.00.

The black-tie affair was attended by more than 700 well-heeled guests who enjoyed a reception, dinner, dancing and a silent and live auction.

Total Assets provided the entertainment.
