Lt. Reese promoted to rank of Bessemer Police Captain

Bessemer Police Chief Gary Carmichael has announced the promotion of Lt. Kenneth Reese to the rank of captain, effective January 24, 2026.

A native of Dolomite, Capt. Reese has been with the department since September 2002.

“I am honored to have been promoted, and I thank Police Chief Gary Carmichael for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to helping the department grow and reaching its potential,” stated Capt. Reese.

His duties will include being responsible for the daily operation of the patrol division, 911, and communications.

Capt. Reese has always been passionate about community involvement.

In 2009, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Miles College and earned his Master of Criminal Justice Administration from Faulkner University in 2019.

Capt. Reese is married to Vercilya, and they have two boys.
