2024 Firefighter of the Year, Bessemer Firefighter Mario Wren has been recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
He was working as an apparatus operator (AO) for the department when selected for the promotion.
A native of Bessemer, Wren has been with the department since August 2019.
His duties will include training firefighters, upholding the department’s standards and policies, honoring the fire chief’s core values, and making the city proud.
Wren stated, “I want to thank Chief Hughley and Mayor Gulley for trusting me to uphold the duties of a lieutenant.”
Married for 13 years, Wren and his wife, Ceairra Wren, have two daughters.
