Ella Hill and Eloise Davis at Plantation Manor toasting the New Year
Most people are not aware that the New Year starts on Greenwich time. So in the United States, one can ring in the New Year between 2 and 5 p.m.
The residents of Plantation Manor Retirement Community, on Old Tuscaloosa Highway in McCalla, also rang in the New Year. However, midnight being past their bedtime, they celebrated on New Year’s Day morning instead.
Gavin Ball is the administrator and owner of Plantation Manor. Planning the fun event was Activities Director Shon Harris and Activities Assistant Maya Lewis.
Harris stated, “It truly warms my heart to be able to bring a festive touch of the outside world into their homes and share moments that make the residents smile.”
Forty-five of the residents attended the fun celebration, which started at 10 a.m. in the dining room. The revelers enjoyed a delicious charcuterie board, pastries, and toasted with sparkling cider.
The residents had a Happy New Year.
