Bessemer awards ambulance service contract

The Bessemer City Council is committed to reliable ambulance service within the city of Bessemer to better assist the Bessemer Fire Department.

The current ambulance service agreement is scheduled to expire.

Bids were authorized and prepared by Bessemer Fire Chief Kendric Hughley and Bessemer City Attorney Aaron Killings.

At a regular meeting of the Bessemer City Council, duly assembled with a quorum being present, a resolution authorizing the solicitation of bid proposals for ambulance services was approved.

Councilman Chester W. Porter made a motion to approve the resolution. Councilwoman Carla Jackson seconded the motion. The motion carried.

At the November 18 meeting of the Bessemer City Council, two bid proposals were received and reviewed.

Northstar Ambulance Service of Tuscaloosa was awarded the contract at the December 2 Bessemer City Council meeting.

The annual contract, effective January 1, is good for up to three years.
