Bessemer City Council Supports Local History
Bessemer City Councilwoman Donna Thigpen, District Four, requested $2,000 from her discretionary fund be allocated to the Bessemer Hall of History.
At a regularly scheduled meeting, duly assembled with a quorum present, the Bessemer City Council approved the resolution appropriating the expenditure of $2,000 from the District Four Discretionary Fund to the Bessemer Hall of History.
About the Bessemer Hall of History
The Bessemer Hall of History was established as a museum dedicated to the history of Bessemer. The museum was founded by the Bessemer Junior Service League in 1969 and was originally housed in the basement of the former Bessemer Post Office on 19th Street North in downtown Bessemer.
In 1985, the museum was relocated to the Alabama Great Southern Railway Depot on Alabama Avenue. The depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Council Action
Councilman Jarvis Collier made a motion to approve the resolution. The motion was seconded by Councilman Teco Stephens and Councilwoman Carla Jackson. The motion carried.
