April is Parliamentary Law Month

In all democratic organizations, it is imperative to have in place parliamentary procedures.

The National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) has designated the month of April as Parliamentary Law Month. Mona Y. Calhoun is President of the National Association of Parliamentarians.

Robert’s Rules of Order is the most widely recognized and used parliamentary authority in public and private organizations throughout the world.

Author Henry Martyn Robert first published Robert’s Rules of Order in 1876. It was known as “Pocket Manual of Rules of Order for Deliberative Assemblies.”

It is timely to reflect on the importance of parliamentary procedure in meetings in providing for civil discourse, protecting individual rights, ensuring fairness, and maintaining order.
