The Marion Cemetery Association, Inc. is expressing its appreciation to Perry County Commissioner Tony Long for continued financial support of upkeep at Marion Cemetery.
According to Marion Cemetery Association, Inc. board member Theresa King Anderson, Long has repeatedly designated money from his discretionary funds on the Perry County Commission to help cover mowing and groundskeeping costs at the historic cemetery in Marion.
Anderson said those contributions help the association “maintain the grounds and make the cemetery the place of respect it deserves to be,” and reflect Long’s “deep roots in our community.”
The association’s only income is from donations, and Anderson said maintaining the cemetery is labor-intensive and expensive, with much of the grass having to be cut using weed-eaters during the summer heat.
Marion Cemetery Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. The board is asking families and friends of those buried at Marion Cemetery, and anyone else who wishes to support the effort, to contribute toward groundskeeping expenses.
