Bertha Louise Grice

Bertha Louise Grice, 89, was born March 18, 1936, and died December 4, 2025, after a brief illness. She transitioned to be with the Lord on that day.

Bertha was born to the late Archie and Isabella Grice and was the youngest of 10 children. She was reared by her parents in a Godly home and confessed hope in Christ at an early age. She joined Greenleaf Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dan Hope, where she remained an active member and was a member of the Matrons Board.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, three sons: Aaron Grice, William Grice, and Jimmie Lee Grice; as well as two grandsons: Bobby Lee Herrod, Jr. and Gregory Cannon.

She leaves to cherish six children: Martha (Eugene) Taylor of Selma, AL, Mary (Ned) Cannon of Greensboro, AL, John (Gerrie) Grice of Loganville, GA, Deloise (Clarence) Jackson, Diane Patton, and Wendy (Melvin) Smith, all of Greensboro, AL; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren; special cousins Johnny and Joanne Green; her “Queen,” Lorraine Paige; her “phone buddies,” Geneva Williams, Rosa Hines, Adelaide Hearns, and Mary Kate Bell; special niece Jessie (Amos) Hill, special nephew Charlie Hines, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

She was deeply committed to her faith and her community, and known for her infectious smile, warm spirit, and unwavering kindness. Bertha touched the lives of everyone she met. Her energy and passion for life will never be forgotten. Though we feel her time with us may have been short-lived, her legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, Bertha. Your radiance and love will forever echo in our hearts.

A homegoing service was held December 13, 2025, at Greenleaf Missionary Baptist Church, 13584 AL-25, Greensboro, AL 36744.
