PCERA observed American Education Week, along with Retired Teachers’ Day

The Perry County Education Retirees Association observed American Education Week, Nov. 17–21, with activities tied to “Retired Teachers’ Day” on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

In a statement, the local association said it was “taking a leadership role in developing activities for ‘Retired Teachers’ Day,’” and noted that events were planned for Nov. 18.

The release also referenced Act No. 90-183, which it said was passed by the Alabama Legislature to honor Alabama’s education retirees and sets aside the Tuesday of American Education Week each year for recognition of the state’s retired education personnel.

The Perry County group is a local unit of the Alabama Education Retirees Association, Inc. (AERA), which the release said represents more than 20,000 retired educators and includes more than 75 local units statewide. Velma Essex is the local unit president.
