What Are Your Duties?
Brad: As a captain, I am the company officer on Heavy Rescue 1 on B Shift. Company officer duties include responding to calls and managing emergency scenes. Station captain duties include assigning hose lists for testing and hydrant lists for testing and ensuring they are completed. I also ride in the battalion car when the battalion chief is off.
Did You Always Want to Be a Firefighter?
Brad: Actually, I am a first-generation fireman. When I was 16 years old, my brother was in a tragic accident. The Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department played a major role in saving his life. Later, we started volunteering and decided to pursue firefighting as a career.
What Do You Enjoy About Being a Fireman?
Brad: Being a fireman is the most wonderful job in the world. As a fireman, I am able to help people on their worst day. Also, every day is different, and you never know what to expect.
Who Is Your Favorite College Football Team?
Brad: All my life, I have been a die-hard Auburn fan. My love for Auburn was instilled in me by my father, who loved The Plains. At the age of six, my picture was taken sitting in Coach Pat Dye’s lap in 1991. War Damn Eagle!
What Is Your Favorite Meal?
Brad: I enjoy a ribeye with a garden salad, baked potato, and asparagus. My favorite dessert is banana pudding.
Tell Me About Your Family
Brad: I am the middle child of three children born to Sandra and Donald Griffin in Forestdale. I have been married to Christy Griffin for 12 years, and we have two beautiful daughters, Charlestyn (10) and Anna Bradley (8).
How Do You Enjoy Christmas?
Brad: Every Christmas, we take our daughters to the Cullman Christkindlmarkt. While in Cullman, we also visit the Sportsman Lake Park Winter Wonderland. I enjoy installing Christmas lights on our house each year for the girls. My family really loves Christmas. 🎄
