2026 marks the 10th Annual Prom Dress/Suit Giveaway in the city of Birmingham. In alignment with Birmingham Promise, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and Boutwell Auditorium’s supporting staff, Ms. Chrysanthenia Hill shared, “This was the most successful Prom Dress/Suit Giveaway we’ve had thus far.”
Held at Boutwell Auditorium, this year’s event was a special celebration of elders supporting and providing for youth. The program included a fashion show, etiquette classes, and other initiatives designed to benefit students in the future for scholastic purposes.
The initiative also addressed the need to support parents during financially uncertain times, serving a purpose beyond oneself. This mission has been central to Chrysanthenia Hill and the Hope With Grace collective.
Ms. Hill explained her inspiration:“My overall inspiration to begin this program was by way of me seeing the need in our communities. We always do something special for our young ladies, and now want to make sure our young men are provided for as well. I’m just grateful to share this productive program within the walls of the Boutwell Auditorium and for them seeing something special within me and our staff.”
Celebrating the efforts of communal partnerships, Ms. Hill expressed gratitude to Commissioner Sheila Tyson, Glits & Gowns, Birmingham city officials, local businesses, and residents who have contributed to the success of the Prom Dress/Suit Giveaway over the years.
She continued, “I thank Mrs. Alicia Johnson-Williams and honor the memory of my mother, Ms. Lametria Hill, for being a great support and inspiration within the things I’ve tried to do for others, especially when it comes to sharing with our children because they’re the future and we want them to never be without anything that’ll be a positioning asset to their success.”
