The mission of Read Across America is to motivate children to read as well as to improve their reading skills.
Read Across America Week, sponsored by the National Education Association, is celebrated each year during the month of March.
Again this year, the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce participated in Read Across America Week, which was held March 2–6.
Bessemer Chamber President Latasha Williams read to the students at Westhills Elementary School in Bessemer. It was a wonderful opportunity for her to share the joy of reading with the elementary students, who were so excited.
This annual event is a thrilling experience for the children as they explore the beauty and power of books.
For decades, the Bessemer Chamber has proudly supported Read Across America by reading in the Bessemer City School System. They are grateful to be invited by the educators and community partners to participate.
A special thank you to Quintina Jones, principal of Westhills Elementary, for her continued commitment to inspiring a love for reading.
