The men of the St. Andrew’s Society don’t need an excuse to toast auld Scotland.
Ceud Mile Fuilte!
Dripping with pomp and ceremony, the St. Andrew’s Society of the Middle South 65th Annual Banquet was a grand, memorable occasion. The fun and festive event was held in the East Room at the Country Club of Birmingham.
The St. Andrew’s Society was established in 1960. 2025 President Kevin Keith of Homewood welcomed the members and their spouses. Over 200 Clans were represented at the annual event, which is held nearest the Feast Day of St. Andrew.
The banquet opened with a dignified procession of past presidents led by the Society’s Pipe Major Ryan Morrison. Lawrence McKiernan is the 2026 President.
This ritual is followed by the presentation of the haggis. Before it is cut, covered in scotch, and then served, a member will recite Robert Burns’ poem, “Address to a Haggis.” The acclaimed poem, a Scottish national favorite, was written in 1786.
The evening’s dinner menu featured a delicious surf and turf served with select wines and complementary desserts.
The highlight of the evening was when the guests stood in a circle, hands joined, and sang “Auld Lang Syne” to welcome in the New Year.
