Shamyia Atkins is candidate for State House 57

Shamyia Atkins

Shamyia Atkins is a qualified candidate for the State House of Representatives District 57. Atkins is a 23-year-old law school student who has worked in public service since the age of 19.

One of her main priorities is to implement the Alabama 60-hour pre-licensing course into the high schools in District 57. Students will learn the complete home-buying process, different types of loans, interest rates, the importance of credit, etc.

The course will be offered free to students as an elective and not mandatory for graduation. Students who complete the course will be eligible to take the National Real Estate Exam and ultimately become licensed real estate agents.

Real estate workshops are beneficial, but the desired progress is often slow. To swiftly embed the idea of homeownership within our communities, we must build a culture of homeownership.

Cultures are built when information is taught in our homes and schools. While real estate workshops have the potential to change the present, building cultures is what changes our future.

The State of Tennessee implemented a real estate program for high school seniors last year. Atkins is committed to working with the Board of Education and other elected officials to bring a real estate program for high school students to Alabama.
