Police ask for info on the murder of 19-year-old at Bessemer Amazon

Bessemer Police and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help to identify the person or persons who shot and killed a 19-year-old Amazon employee during his break last month.

Tyler Alexander was killed on January 18th at the city’s Amazon warehouse. Police have received tips in the case but haven’t made any arrests.

Bob Copus, Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, said the case needs to be solved.

“Everybody knows what Amazon is and what they do. You don’t think about violent crime being mixed in with that, but it did,” Copus said.

Crime Stoppers has received tips, but the organization has been unable to find the person who is responsible for killing Alexander.

There is a $5,000 reward in the case.

“Until we get all that information to the police department and they can put together the picture, then they can find this person and hold them accountable for the terrible act,” Copus said.

Sophia Brown, Alexander’s mother, said it’s devastating that her son had to go through what he did at such a young age.

“They didn’t care about if a child was in the car while their mother was getting dropped off at work, a grandmother picking up her grandson from work. They didn’t care about life. Tyler’s life, my life, your life, anybody’s life that could have been out there at Amazon. So they’re definitely armed and dangerous,” Brown said.

In a statement on the case, an Amazon representative said:

“This was a tragic and senseless act of violence and our thoughts continue to be with Tyler’s family and our team at BHM1. We continue to cooperate with the Bessemer Police Department’s investigation.”
